Keep the Weight Off This Holiday Season

The days leading to Christmas are really the time to be jolly. As everyone prepares to get into the spirit of the season, people suddenly become more forgiving, more eager to please, and more generous in sharing their blessings. It is also that time of the year when people temporarily forego whatever diet or regimen they have. Since no gathering or celebration is ever complete without food, it’s not surprising then that belts seem to literally tighten during this season. With so much food around them, there is always a tendency for people to overeat. In fact, studies show that the average person gains at least a pound during the Christmas holidays.

If you think that pound is nothing to be worried about, think again. The weight you gain during the holidays is hardly ever lost the rest of the year. It actually just keeps on accumulating even after you have gone back to your old fitness routine. The only way you can keep that weight off is if you don’t gain it at all. This does not mean that you should deprive yourself of all that good food. It only means that you should incorporate some sort of activity or exercise into your routine amidst all that eating. If you can get your friends and family into it, then all the better. Nowadays, there are so many activities you can get into such as indoor sports. With so many types available, you can easily find a sport you will enjoy.

When it comes to indoor sports, there are various types to choose from depending on the number of players you have. However, the more enjoyable ones are those that can be played by a large group. Compared to running or other forms of sport that you can do on your own, getting into an indoor sport that can be played by a team can also help foster camaraderie among members.

One such sport that can be played with a minimum of 14 players is indoor netball. In the past, this sport was reserved only for women but nowadays, more and more men are learning how to play the game. With mixed matches that allow men in the game, it’s easy for your dad, brother, husband or boyfriend to join you in this game. Through indoor netball, you not only get to have fun and lose weight at the same time; but you get to spend time with the people you care about. What could be better way to celebrate the season?
